Kelsey Johnson‏

Kelsey Johnson started dancing when she was 5 years old in Reidsville, North Carolina. When she was 8 years old she moved to Texas, and from there she attended Texas Academy of Dance and Twirl for 10 years until she graduated from high school. She has also twirled for 8 years. She has won twirl solo grand champion and dance solo grand champion multiple times. Since she started dancing at TXA she has been a part of the competition teams along with the competition twirl team, and was a student instructor for six years as well. She has gone to TDEA conventions, MA camps and workshops, and leadership workshops to further her dance education. Kelsey has also trained in ballet and modern for two years with master teacher Molly Andriola.

Kelsey was the twirler for the band in middle school, and was also an officer in the band in middle school. She graduated high school from New Caney High School in 2012, and was a Cum Lade and distinguished graduate. She was a part of the NCHS Bluebonnets for four years and the NCHS band for one year. In her sophomore year she was part of the military officer line and held the position of 1st lieutenant, and in her junior and senior year she held the top officer position of Colonel. Along with dancing as a part of the drill team she continued to dance and compete with TXA throughout high school. She was a Student Instructor for TXA for 5 years and now Instructs at TXA. She taught the TX Mini Stars in 2013-14 and is teaching the TX Senior Stars in 2015-16. In high school she was a part of the SLACERS which is the student leadership advisory committee, and in her senior year she was part of the superintendent’s student cabinet. For her senior year she also completed 100 hours of community service.

She is now in her third year of college at Sam Houston State University. She is pursuing a Bachelors of Science, and she is majoring in Elementary Education. Kelsey is also a part of the Honor’s College at SHSU. In the future she hopes to achieve a Master’s degree in Library Science to become a librarian.
